Big Brother Really Is Watching You, All Of You.

big-brother.jpg
The Washington Post reports: “The FBI is embarking on a $1 billion effort to build the world’s largest computer database of peoples’ physical characteristics, a project that would give the government unprecedented abilities to identify individuals in the United States and abroad… Digital images of faces, fingerprints and palm patterns are already flowing into FBI systems in a climate-controlled, secure basement here. Next month, the FBI intends to award a 10-year contract that would significantly expand the amount and kinds of biometric information it receives. And in the coming years, law enforcement authorities around the world will be able to rely on iris patterns, face-shape data, scars and perhaps even the unique ways people walk and talk, to solve crimes and identify criminals and terrorists. The FBI will also retain, upon request by employers, the fingerprints of employees who have undergone criminal background checks so the employers can be notified if employees have brushes with the law.”

Web Bot Project Predicts 2012 Apocalypse

The Web Bot Project, which was originally designed to predict the peak of Microsoft’s stock value, predicts a 2012 apocalypse. This supports ancient Mayan and Oracle prophecies of dooms day on 12.21.12.

If a planet in the Milky Way implodes on itself and no other planet hears it, did it really happen?

80 Institutions Used in C.I.A. Mind Studies, Were YOU a Test Subject?

1977-08-04, New York Times

Adm. Stansfield Turner, the Director of Central Intelligence, testified today that the C.I.A. had secretly supported human behavior control research at 80 institutions, including 44 colleges or universities as well as hospitals, prisons and pharmaceutical companies. He said that the main action years of MK-Ultra were from 1953 through 1963. The projects, he said, had included tests of LSD and of a “K,” or “knockout drop.” The agency had supported 185 nongovernment researchers in 149 separate research projects. Admiral Turner said that … 8,000 pages of newly discovered documents do not contain the names of the subjects of the tests but do contain “leads” that might enable them to be found. Admiral Turner acknowledged under questioning that the C.I.A. had apparently planned to test drugs on terminal cancer patients at the same institution where it secretly contributed $375,000 toward the construction of a hospital building. The New York Times has independently confirmed the institution is Georgetown University Medical School here. Admiral Turner [also] said that “some unwitting testing took place on criminal sexual psychopaths confined at a state hospital.” At the two-hour hearing today, Senator Kennedy, a Massachusetts Democrat, pressed Admiral Turner to let the universities, researchers and possible subjects of the tests know of the C.I.A.’s involvement. “These individuals have a right to know who they are and why they were used,” he said.

Startup Says It Can Make Ethanol **TODAY** for $1 a Gallon, and Without Corn

A biofuel startup in Illinois can make ethanol from just about anything organic for less than $1 per gallon, and it wouldn’t interfere with food supplies, company officials said.

Coskata, which is backed by General Motors and other investors, uses bacteria to convert almost any organic material, from corn husks (but not the corn itself) to municipal trash, into ethanol.

“It’s not five years away, it’s not 10 years away. It’s affordable, and it’s now,” said Wes Bolsen, the company’s VP.

Google-Gate? Google Ogling the Left? Who knew?

By Noel Sheppard  of newsbusters.org | January 26, 2008 – 11:00 ET

NewsBusters reported in December that Internet behemoth Google had a disclaimer cautioning readers that the website of conservative magazine the American Spectator “may harm your computer.”

For some reason, this warning no longer exists.

This raises a couple of important questions:

  • Did the American Spectator do anything to its website that made it “safer?”
  • If not, did Google change its “harmful site” parameters, and, if so, why?

*****Update: Ed Driscoll points out that TCS Daily, another conservative site, was similarly afflicted.
